What HAS GROWN TO BE THE BUNDEENA COMMUNITY MUSIC ASSOCIATION BEGAN, AS DO SO MANY GOOD IDEAS, OVER A COUPLE of Beers ...

It was nearly seven years ago that current president Nick Galvin and founding member Phil Gissing started kicking around the idea of forming a new music ensemble for Bundeena.

They put the word out locally and a modest ensemble, consisting largely of flutes and trumpets, gathered for the first rehearsal in Bundeena Public School Hall.

All the players agreed it was great fun and committed to regular rehearsals.

The band grew rapidly and staged its world premiere event at Bundeena Public School in September 2011, with Phil Gissing conducting an group of about 16 local players, plus a couple of friends from out of town.

The event was an enormous success and the band grew and grew under the baton of musical genius Pip Gissing.

About three years later, we added a training band to cater for junior and adult musicians with less experience in a deliberate policy to "grow our own talent".

Since then we have been thrilled to promote many training band players into the senior band and even graduate several right through the program.

Then, about two years ago, our other resident musical genius (and co-Musical Director) Heather Davies established the Bundeena Jazz & Swing Singers, accompanied by Pip Gissing. The ensemble has blossomed into a highly accomplished, fun choir singing a range or repertoire from jazz to soul and popular music.

Our latest endeavour, beginning this year, is the Bundeena Ramshackle Orkestra. With a fun, fast, joyous - and sometimes raucous - repertoire of world and folk music, the Orkestra  welcome players of all ages and abilities welcome, especially string players, and percussion.
